GTBank Principals Cup 2016 Winners to Receive D100, 000 Cash Prize

GTBank Gambia on Friday 16th June presented footballs and jerseys to 16 male and female teams that have qualified to play in the national championship of the maiden GTBank Principal's Cup. The presentation follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between GTBank and The Gambia Secondary Schools Football Association for a sponsorship deal worth over D1.4 million. The sponsorship package requires GTBank to pay GSSFA D0.5Million annually for 4 years as wells a provide football materials to all 16 competing clubs, provide trophies and cash prizes to both the male and female champions and runners-up. The president of the GSSFA Martin Gomez described the sponsorship package as "unprecedented in the history of Secondary School football in The Gambia". Martin explained that in the past they were forced to abandon the tournament half way in and send students home because they could not feed them. The school sports boss called on other institutions to emulate GTBank. GTBank Gambia CEO Bolaji Ayodele announced at the Friday event that winners and runners-up for both the male and female categories will each receive D100, 000 and D50, 000 cash prizes respectively. He maintained that the Bank hopes that school football will provide an opportunity for students to nurture their football talents while providing local league coaches the opportunity to identify such talents for their clubs. The tournament is scheduled to kick start on June 27th, 2016 with the finals scheduled for July 3rd, 2016. All games will be played at the Independence stadium and it's free at the gates.  Below are the various groups:
