Guaranty Trust Bank Gambia and the Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) on Monday, October 3rd, 2022, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which allows GTSC customers to buy bus tickets at any GTBank branch effective Wednesday 5th October 2022.
GTSC is a public enterprise with one of the largest infrastructures in the country’s transportation industry. It has support depots in Kanifing, Essau, Soma, Basse, Brikama, and Farafenni.
In meeting modern technological advances, the company partnered with GTBank in promoting better customer service through the sale of electronic tickets for Dakar and Nuwari Services to promote e-banking through the use of the GTBank app.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, GTSC General Manager Mr. Seedy Kanyi said that given its company’s large customer base, this scheme would reduce significantly the risk of fraud due to less cash handling by their staff.
The company, he added, handles large amounts of cash, which, according to him, may lead to potential cash shortages. Mr. Kanyi added that the desire to make ticket buying accessible for their passengers coupled with their efforts to maximise revenue has motivated GTSC to enter into the e-ticket sales with GTBank.
GTSC Head of Finance Mr. Ba Lamin Darboe, explained that the first phase of the Dakar and Nuwari Bus Service would enable their customers to walk into any GTBank branch to buy tickets. He also revealed that the second phase of the scheme, which is in the advanced stage, would allow their customers to buy e-tickets using GTBank Gambia Mobile App Service.
Mr. Darboe continued, “In the final phase of the project, students will be able to scan and pay for tickets using the GTBank QR Code for the school bus service.”
GTBank Gambia Executive Director, Mr. Daniel Attah, welcomed this initiative and hailed the management of GTSC for the foresight. He noted that a cash collection agreement between the two companies would enhance efforts toward achieving a digitalized economy for the country.
Mr. Daniel assured of the bank’s efforts towards developing “a cashless economy.” He spoke of the importance the bank attached to security, noting that GTBank invests so much to ensure its platforms remain secure and robust at all times. He seized the opportunity to encourage more GTBank customers to sign on to the GTWorld Mobile App in order to enjoy this tailor-made service and other amazing services that the bank has to offer.
